Demisexuality is a sexual orientation on the Asexual spectrum. Its main characteristic is that a demisexual person does not experience sexual attraction to another person unless a deep, meaningful, and close emotional connection has first been established between them.

For demisexual people, physical appearance, status, or aesthetic attraction alone are not enough to trigger sexual attraction. The emotional connection - which can develop through deep friendship, intimate conversations, or prolonged acquaintance - serves as a "key" or an essential prerequisite, after which sexual attraction may (but not necessarily) arise.

This phenomenon is common and widely discussed within the autistic and neurodivergent community, as part of the concept of Neuroqueer - which posits that differences in neurological wiring also influence and shape how a person experiences, processes, and develops relationships, gender, and sexuality.
